In a surprising legal maneuver, Jay-Z‘s lawyers have withdrawn their request to sanction the attorney behind a lawsuit accusing him and Sean “Diddy” Combs of raping a 13-year-old girl. The lawsuit, filed by attorney Tony Buzzbee, originally named only Combs but later included Jay-Z, whose legal team has staunchly denied the allegations.
Legal Battle and Withdrawn Sanctions Request
Last month, Jay-Z, born Shawn Carter, petitioned the court to dismiss the lawsuit, arguing that Buzzbee had filed the complaint with multiple inaccuracies and without conducting a thorough investigation. Additionally, Jay-Z’s team sought sanctions against Buzzbee, urging the court to impose a monetary penalty for what they deemed a baseless case.

However, Deadline has reported that Jay-Z’s legal team has now moved to withdraw this request “without prejudice,” meaning it could be refiled in the future. Alex Spiro, Jay-Z’s longtime lawyer, confirmed in a letter to Judge Analisa Torres that both parties had agreed to the withdrawal.
Ongoing Accusations and Legal Responses
Buzzbee represents multiple clients in civil cases against Combs, accusing the music mogul of rape, battery, and abuse spanning several decades. He has dismissed Jay-Z’s legal arguments as an attempt to “bully or intimidate” opposing counsel.
Judge Torres recently reprimanded both legal teams for their aggressive courtroom tactics, particularly criticizing Spiro’s repeated motions that attempted to discredit the plaintiff’s lawyer. She described these motions as “a waste of judicial resources” and warned that the judicial process would not be expedited due to combative filings.
Additional Lawsuits Against Sean Combs

Combs is facing additional legal troubles, with two more lawsuits filed on February 4 by women alleging he orchestrated their sexual assaults at Donald Trump’s Midtown Manhattan hotel. Identified as “Jane Does” in court documents, the women claim they were drugged and forced into group sex while Combs observed.
Combs’ legal team has dismissed these accusations, calling them “facially ridiculous or demonstrably false.” A statement from his attorneys expressed confidence in the judicial process, asserting that Combs “never sexually assaulted or trafficked anyone.”
As the legal battles unfold, the cases against Combs and the now-altered legal strategy of Jay-Z continue to capture public and media attention.
